Money donated to the WSPCR helps out in many ways. The three main focal points of our society are:
- Education - Donations help us provide quality shows that help people learn just how fascinating these animals are, and to dispell the myths that surround most reptile species.
- Conservation - We are getting more involved in the communities, and helping with such issues as Burns' Bog, turtle overpopulation and the Lower Mainland bullfrog invasion. On a broader scale .. the WSPCR is a gathering place for local breeders who are doing their part to ensure that the pets you buy are captive bred, and not taken from the dwindling wild stocks.
- Protection - Your donations help pay for tanks, supplies and food for the many animals we foster while arranging for adoption .. ensuring that people have a safe place to take care of animals they can no longer care for. Our adoption program gives you an alternative to the "dead end" facilities that take in animals, but never let them out again. We are protecting not just the rights of the animals, but the rights of the thousands of pet owners who are constantly in danger of ill-advised bylaws banning exotic pets. We have a very vocal group that keeps an eye out for council meetings dealing with exotic animal laws and have been instrumental in holding off a number of very scary bylaws.
Every little bit helps. The WSPCR has been around for over 30 years helping reptile owners and breeders in the lower mainland, and we have many exciting plans for the future. With your help we can create a happier healthier reptile community.
